  • Into the Woods

Worth it just for the on-stage talent.

Bridge Theatre – until 28 May

11 well-deserved Olivier Nominations – worth it just for the on-stage talent. Sondheim’s most commercial musical – at the Bridge – I am looking forward to it.

  • Inter Alia

Definitely one of the best I saw last year, and definitely deserving of a West End run.

Wyndhams Theatre – Until 12 May

From the writer of Prima Facie – Rosamund Pike leads. So well done throughout – the directing, stage design, lighting, and acting all really good. Definitely one of the best I saw last year, and definitely deserving of a West End run.

  • Oliver!

As good as you’d want from Oliver – technically first class and doesn’t hold back.

    Guilgud Theatre

The current version is (I think) as good as you’d want from Oliver (it will be hard to top) – at every point I think they made excellent creative choices to put together something truly outstanding. It is funny, entertaining, technically first class and doesn’t hold back from the darker side of the story. With or without children in tow It is one of my current top recommendations.

  • Stranger Things: The First Shadow

My vote for the most entertaining show in the West End at the moment.

    Phoenix Theatre

I saw for the first time having never seen Stranger things and loved it – I thought it was so immensely entertaining.  I liked it so much I went a second time.

My one criticism is it feels it could be trimmed a couple of points however,  this is because it does some work to fill out some lore for the stranger things world – and even there it didn’t make the thing feel slow or lacking pace.  I’d love to go again. I may give it my vote for the most entertaining show in the West End at the moment.

  • Wicked

Great songs, good pace and very entertaining

    Victoria Palace Theatre

I have love for this show – great songs and it just whips through and is entertaining – just feels a bit dated and tired compared to some of the newer stuff.

  • Cabaret

Dark and challenging – it draws you in and makes you complicit in the world it creates

KitKat Club at the Playhouse Theatre

I really love this version of Cabaret – It is dark and challenging – it draws you in and makes you complicit in the world it creates – great singing, acting, directing and the rest. As it is a rotating list of stars cast as lead (EmCee and Sally Bowles) the feel of the overall experience does depend somewhat on who is in the lead, but overall it is a top show.

  • Starlight Express

Totally and utterly bonkers – but thien it is immensely talented people singing and dancing on rollerskates

Trubador Wembley – Until 31 May

Totally and utterly bonkers – seen it 3 times with the children now – I think it makes even less sense (story wise) than ever – but it is about immensely talented people singing and dancing on rollerskates – and it delivers on that in spades – closing soon – some good ticket deals.

  • Hades Town

Great acting, singing, staging and all-round superb story-telling.

    Lyric Theatre

Sung through musical loosely based on Orpheus and Euridice – I have seen 3 times and gong again with my 11 year old. 1940s jazz(ish) inspired style – very well done.  Superb story telling.  I am very keen to see the current cast – some excellent talent.

  • Play That Goes Wrong

Executes the “bad play” concept almost to perfection

    Duchess Theatre

I think this does the “bad play” idea almost to perfection – they don’t miss a gag, everything supports the world, and you have running gags and callbacks throughout – very well executed – especially good if you have children in tow.

  • Witness for the Prosecution

Fantastic and highly entertaining play and this production is absolutely first class

    County Hall

An absolutely fantastic and highly entertaining play and this production is absolutely first class – I always recommend it – pure entertainment – pure fun – I would watch this over and over. I can’t wait to take my 11 year old to see it.
